Aim:
Based on the micro-vision of city streets, make deep thinking on present phenomena of global urbanization, pay attention to status
of urban life & development including people flow and consequent problems, emotions and? opportunities, explore the role that
art & design could or should play in the process.

Background of the design and research is a 1-km2-wide area along Suzhou River which is a mingle of the old city and the new city.
Students of art & design (including product design, environmental design, digital media design & visual communications),
architecture design, urban design and landscape design will be involved.
Regard city streets as the research object; reveal the multi-identity of city residents generated in the rapid transformation of modern
cities from different design visions. Through the three main topics: the spatial transition from outlander to local people, the identity
transition from immigrants to city residents, the impression transition from passers to homesteader. Through these three
viewpoints, designers come into the thinking of the relationship between city and people.
Present the recent tendency of integrating immigrants and different culture in international cities; explore the rich inner meaning of
urbanization and consequent transition in economy, society and culture.
Think critically about the issue of how to provide better life in art & design way and improve life quality by means of art & design.
